The sudden and unexpected death of JFS Vice President Julie Morris is an enormous loss for both the local Jewish community that she loved and the wider Spokane community. In addition to her years of thoughtful, dedicated, and creative work for Jewish Family Services, Julie was a retired teacher, a member of Hadassah’s National Portfolio Council, and chair of the Hadassah Foundation. She sat on the board of the Spokane Therapeutic Courts Foundation and was an extremely active and beloved member of the Temple Beth Shalom community for decades.
When working on behalf of organizations she believed in, Julie was a consummate professional. Though she had many interests, her efforts as a volunteer and generosity as a philanthropist generally advanced causes that uphold human dignity and promote greater understanding between people groups, such as Hadassah Medical Center. Julie was also a proud patron of the arts and supported Spokane’s Jewish film festival as both a financial contributor and a festival committee member.
Most of all, we will remember Julie as a loyal friend, a wise leader, and a truth teller who had great respect for those with different points of view. Julie traveled the world, seemed to make friends everywhere she went, and loved her family most of all. She will be sorely missed, but her achievements and who she was will inspire us all for countless years to come. May Julie’s memory be for a blessing.
