Abby Saks is the Inland Northwest field organizer for Save Our Wild Salmon, a nonprofit dedicated to Columbia Basin salmon recovery. She was raised in the Jewish tradition in upstate New York and now lives in Spokane, where she enjoys doing crossword puzzles and running and biking along the river. At this month’s JFS Luncheon, Abby will discuss the critical importance of salmon to cultures across the Northwest, how Columbia Basin salmon populations are doing, the threats salmon face, and what actions can be taken to restore their populations, including lower Snake River restoration.

Post Falls resident Bob Shay serves as Commander of Pacific Northwest Post 686 of Jewish War Veterans of the United States. JWV was formed in 1896 by 36 Jewish veterans of the Union Army in the Civil War. Originally the organization was known as the Hebrew Union Veterans Association; in the 1920s, it merged with a Jewish Spanish-American War veterans group and became JWV. At this month’s luncheon, Bob will give a presentation titled “Grand Forks, Ellis Island of the Prairie” that promises to be interesting and informative. Please consider joining us!
Performance by Cameron Brow
Cameron Brow is a prominent magician and mentalist based in Spokane. Highly regarded in the Pacific Northwest magic community, he is celebrated for blending sleight-of-hand tricks, hypnotism, and mind-reading to create intimate, engaging performances. Cameron took first place in the 2022 Spokane Magic Club Close-Up Contest, cementing his reputation as a top-tier sleight-of-hand artist. He frequently features in large-scale regional productions, such as 2024’s “Confusium: Comedy, Magic & Illusions” show at the Bing Crosby Theater. Cameron holds a regular performance slot providing weekend tableside magic at Shawn O’Donnell’s Irish Pub in Spokane. Rather than basic tricks, his mentalism acts often focus on hypnotism and helping audience members uncover hidden talents and thoughts. We’re thrilled to host him as the JFS Luncheon’s first-ever guest magician!
